But the most famous landmark of all is the ” Big Prawn”.  A 30 foot prawn monument, weighing almost 40 tons. A very popular tourist destination, initially created to celebrate the prawn industry. Ballina town has a rich history of fishing with the Richmond River providing one of the largest sources of seafood in the region – you can actually watch whales swim up and down the river!
